Hey, thanks for signing up to this. It’s a bit of an experiment really — it felt like it would be good to get back to connecting with people in smaller, more personal ways again. So, let’s see how it goes and fingers crossed you won’t hate it!

Work & Projects

Boords

Boords

Branding

At the end of last year, I worked with the lovely crew at Boords to create a new brand for the company and its software. You can read a bit more on my site with a proper project case study coming later in the year.

Loopers

Loopers

Side project

Loopers is a little self-initiated motion design project I've been doing in Cinema 4D. It features little imaginary worlds of weird geometric, stackable characters that move in pleasing infinite loops.

Remarkable

Automatoys

Automatoys

iOS game

A super fun new iOS game from Idle Friday / Steffan Glynn.

Insert coin. Dispense ball. Tap, turn, tilt and spin the contraptions to help each ball hop and roll its way to victory. Each Automatoy is a unique, mechanical obstacle course.

Explore

Explore

Creative platform

As I get increasingly jaded about the likes of Instagram and other social networks, it's nice to see smaller contenders popping up with decent values and a positive vibe.

Explore looks full of promise to me. It's billed as 'a brand new platform for creatives. A place where you can share your work and meet the community without the distraction of ads or unwanted content.'

While not yet released, you can sign up to join their waitlist.

Useful

Splitbee

Splitbee

Analytics

I was looking for a decent alternative to Google Analytics for my site and found one in Splitbee. It's just simple metrics to satisfy my curiosity, while respecting the privacy of users. And I am so glad to finally be shot of the over-engineered mess that is Google's UI.

Literal

Literal

Social network for reading

For a better designed alternative to Good Reads, check out Literal, which I've been using since it's private beta. You can track and share the books you read and get inspiration from others on what to read next. Lovely. And now publicly available too.

Watch

Black Bird

Black Bird

TV Series

We've just finished this brilliant series on Apple TV+, based on the real life case of Larry Hall. Taron Egerton plays a drug dealer who is offered the chance to clear his sentence by the FBI if he can elicit a confession from a known serial killer before his appeal comes up.

Brilliant stuff and Paul Walter Hauser is fantastic as Larry Hall.

Brian & Charles

Brian & Charles

Film

My wife and I recently went to see Brian & Charles having no context beforehand on what we'd be watching.

It's a whimsical comedy with David Earl about a loner who builds a robot that comes to life and it was joyful and ridiculous in equal measure. Just what we needed.

Music to Work to

Playlist

This is a lovely mixed bag of stuff curated by Von. It's 'a playlist to interest but not interrupt. Good tunes at a good pace spanning genres and eras.'

On a loop

On a loop

Single

Currently on a loop while I'm working is Industry (Green Light/Fun Night Breaks Mix) by Nathan Micay.

It's a beaut rework of the title music he did for the great TV series of the same name.

Creative Selection by Ken Kocienda

Book

Really enjoyed this first hand account from ex-Apple engineer, Ken Kocienda about his time at the company under Steve Jobs. Lots of details about the design and engineering of now ubiquitous products like the iPhone and iPad.
